Italienne's

Design history research about a typeface style that break norms.

This was a school project where I could write about anything related to typography. My text is about the history and development of the ”Italienne” model, also called ”reverse-contrast” typeface, which I find very interesting both visually and historically.

The typeface was born as a reaction to the very often used and praised typeface ”Didot” during the 1820’s. The idea was simply to reverse the contrasts of every letter to create a new and eye-catching font that would stand out from the crowd.

The cover includes a self-made typeface inspired by the early and modern Italiennes.
